Single-family house with a folding-arm awning

A folding-arm awning across the full width of the terrace. Extended it shades the seating; retracted it disappears under the eaves.

The arm carries everything

A folding-arm awning has no post at the front. The whole fabric hangs on two arms under spring tension — which is why the projection is limited, and why the fixing into the masonry decides how long the installation lasts.

Where the hold comes from

Brackets are not set into the render but into the load-bearing material behind it. Which anchor that takes depends on the substrate: brick, concrete and insulation each call for a different solution, and the wrong one only shows itself in the first storm.
