A pergola awning stands on its own posts and needs no load-bearing wall. Over a roof terrace that is often the only solution that comes into question at all — and it retracts again once the sun is welcome.

The water has to go

A horizontally stretched fabric collects rain, and standing water stretches any covering. That is why it is fitted with a fall and the fabric held under tension by springs or rollers — a puddle in the cloth is not a question of the weather but of the fitting.
